Okay, were actually at 72 hours now and I have to say that I’m doing rather well, all things considered. Pain is down, Im feeling more mobile, and I got my IV and heart monitor disconnected . The JP drain is still in, which is annoying but getting the other stuff out offsets that I suppose.

Fun story - yesterday I was told I couldn’t eat until I farted. I went on several walks and finally ripped one... right in front of the nurses’ coffee mess. Just as I passed by, my nurse came up to get a cup of coffee, and as I turned the corner I hollered “Sorry for crop dusting you!”. The other nurses thought it was funny.

Today’s goal is to poop. I don’t anticipate this being a problem, though I may ask for prune juice with lunch as extra insurance. If I poop and my drain continues to decrease like it has been, I should get to go home tomorrow!

Woooooooo! Medically necessitated crop du sting!

My girlfriend had her large intestine removed two years ago. I laughed at first that the ward she was in had a big “Congrats on pooping today!” sign by the nurse’s desk. But they weren’t lying, that is an accomplishment in that area of the hospital..... The things you take for granted as a healthy person.

I somehow missed all of this! Hope you heal up quickly now that everything is all fixed.

We had that battle the last time I had surgery. The nurses, as educated as they were, couldn’t figure out that since I was vomiting up everything I consumed there was no way anything was going to make it to the other end regardless of the digestive assists they forced on me . Anesthesia is not my friend.

All. It was distended pretty badly. Her small intestine is also somewhat distended, but that just made it easy to hook up to the other side. She eats and digests normally now. Before, she had trouble with regular metabolism and would go days without eating/processing food and then suddenly have a day where she ate everything and thn didn’t and then.......yeah, she was pretty much constantly in pain for a year or two before that.

get ready for the pain when they remove that JP drain.

In 2017 i got 15 inches of large intestine removed after it burst inside me.

I still remembrer that drain removal. No fun was had, even if i was drugged up every 4 hours for the pain. I grabbed the nurse’s hand to stop her, and when you se that thing just keeps on going on forever on the way out......

Ouch, that doesn’t sound like a fun time at all. As I mentioned in previous installments, my issue is a lot of the common (and strong) pain meds dont work for me. Fentynal, which is apprently 100x stronger than morphine, takes my pain from 10 to 9. I keep thinking I should throw out some suggestions to the n urses for non-opioids I could try, like crack. I don’t think they would find it as funny as I do.

I love it. Not sure what “ oleo”i s, but I’m glad it doesn’t leak it. Maybe I should check my Cruze for ol eo leaks.

Also I find it weirdly restrained that they stopped the tasteless modding at head and tail lights. That thing needs some chrome 19s and some obnoxious vinyl graphics.

The whole gluten thing means all I’ve ever had are some GF ripoffs that weren’t terribly good. What do you have against Oreos? Cookie or Cream argument gone too far?

it might of been me cause i was full on sepsis, when i finally went to the hospital my skin was turning gray. When the nurse came out of her office to call the next patient in the emergency room she say me waiting and called me in before she got to my number.....

That was the start of 3 very hard months

Glad you’re on the mend! The pain mostly went away quick after the first couple days. The worst of it for me was shoulder pain due to the laparoscopic procedure. Something happens to transmit the pain to that nerve, and it feels like your shoulder has been kicked in the balls.

Nah, I really love oreos. The problem is I will sit down and eat the whole package because Im a big dumb animal with no self control.

Oof, that sounds like it. Im glad you survived it. Im lucky, they caught my appendix juuuust before it ruptured, from what it sounds like. Ive heard some horror stories about people where its already ruptured and they are in sepsis. Sounds like no fun at all.

Im sure Ammo cleaning stuff isn’t cheap. I get the impression hes for hire to detail cars, and I'm sure that's not cheap either. I think professional detailers can turn some good money if they are good AND have a steady client base.

At one point I looked into having the Terrain professionally detailed and ceramic coated - the quotes I got ranged $600 to 1000 just for detailing. Ceramic coating was going to add several hundred on that.

Now I'm sure he's charging NYC prices, and with the car hoarder some of that stuff is super rare so hes got to charge extra because he's got to go slow so he doesn't damage it. I wouldn't be surprised if he got $2000 to do that 'Vette and $3k or more for the Bizzarrini.

Can’t tell you for the appendix but I can say when my intestine ruptured it hurt, I’ve been told It’s one of the most intense pains possible. Before the doctor operated me he told my wife that he didn’t know if I was going to survive the operation. Well I did, but I had a bag on my stomach to poo. I have a 10 inch scar where he cut me open to remove the the poo inside of me and remove the 15 inches.

I was lucky cause I only had the shit bag for about 2 months. The poo bag was my greatest fear for at least ten years before my intestine ruptured.

Now I ’m basically back to normal except I go to the bathroom more often.

Ive heard pain like that is some of the most intense as well. Honestly the post surgery pain for me has been worse than the pre surgery. But I knew something was wrong and I had to get it checked out.

Im glad you're pretty much fully recovered, that is a great success story. The appendix is fairly routine and they got mine (barely) before it ruptured so I should be back to 100% in about a month. But boy do I feel lucky.

I went once, for a groin hernia repair. Im not sure how this rates compared to that... I'd still say hernia was slightly worse, but this has been no picnic.

Yeah they did that for me too, they both sides even though one side was the only issue, not a bad idea. It was no fun though, I had to have a step stool next to the bed to get my foot on to roll out, I had a brace to keep my torso from twisting but it still hurt.

Ouch.

I g ot to convalesce at home, off base and not in a military hospital or barracks, which was nice. And I came up with a similar setup, using a stool to help get in and out of bed. I remember I wanted to die for about the forst week, f elt mostly better after about the second week, but had residual pain for what felt like forever.

Well I had metal that came in through my side and bounced along my ribs and they think it bounced on the inside of my body armor so it couldn’t leave. They had to fix one thing and then later go back and finish for some reason. I was on happy drugs, later on they reduced things and it felt bad. My hernia was later on and I guess they just do both sides so they never have to go back in for that. I was in the hospital another time in Germany, I didn’t have abdominal injuries though. I was knocked out and flown to Germany since they were going anyway, surprise you are in Germany!
